Course Overview
This workshop, while based on sound theoretical models, will be practical and flexible in terms of needs. In order to enable learning outcomes to be achieved in a unique way it will include discussion, debates and a critical exploration of issues so that by the end of the session delegates will:
- Be able to affirm their individual status as a unique, valuable asset in the new global market
- Be able to affirm their employability and / or entrepreneurial capability
- Develop their aspirations and belief in opportunities in the world of work
- Be inspired by meeting and talking to people, working within different fields, who have found the edge e.g. sport, charity, health, education and business
- Be signposted to additional support
- To develop an action plan of how to move forward
Course Facilitator

This workshop brings together two facilitators, whose individual skills, experience and expertise provides delegates with a unique and exiting opportunity to find the edge.
Andy McCann
Andy is Managing Director of amcan. Previously, while enjoying a highly successful, award winning career in education, he suffered a significant brain injury. He understands the unpredictability of life and the effect that events can have on self belief, motivation and aspirations. His personal story includes a fight back from a serious brain injury aged 37 for which, out of over 900 nominations, he received a UK Award for Courage after a unanimous decision by the judges.
Having demonstrated both employability and entrepreneurial capability following his recovery, he is an advocate of functional psychology and his aim is to help develop management and self management efficiency by increasing awareness of how to develop both creativity and human capital health, so developing and affirming the individual’s aspirations an organisation’s bottom line. He developed amcan’s innovative and acclaimed ‘Aim High and Enjoy the Climb™’ programme, which has been delivered to hundreds of school leavers and job seekers across Wales.
Andy has been featured on TV, radio and in the local and national press, is an internationally published author and an elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. In 2007 he was nominated for the prestigious Glen Dimplex Writer’s Award and was a recipient of the Daily Mail Health Book of the Week in 2008. Continuing to write regularly, Andy is a regular contributor to several publications including the Times (Educational Supplement) and is working on other book projects.
Andy is now in wide demand as a key note speaker due to his accessible style, which draws from an expertise including over 20 years first hand experience of elite sport performance, education, health and business.
As well as his business interests, Andy is also currently Chair of the Cardiff & Vale NHS Trust ASSET Charity whose brief is to increase the quality of primary stroke patient care in the Trust.
Rhodri Powell
Rhodri is a corporate performance coach with considerable workforce development experience in FTSE100, 300 and SME companies. Rhodri has a considerable background in redundancy counselling (across many industries including the quarrying, aggregates and steelworks industries), interview skills training and confidence coaching for executive level individuals looking for their next career move.
He is passionate and committed to the improved performance of the individual in exploiting the talent, skills and strengths they possess-his emphasis is on practical, pragmatic ways to gain the edge in the jobs market.
He specialises in improving the mindset, communication skills and behaviour of executives by coaching staff, managers and directors in leadership style, communication skills, business strategy and career planning.
He holds careers coaching and psychological confidence building qualifications including a Sportsmind “Mental Mastery” qualification, together with advanced executive coaching credentials and his work takes him across the UK in supporting companies, teams and individuals in their quest for excellence.
